Each month we
present a body of work from a premier artist with whom we have collaborated
closely in the creation of fine art prints.
artist for the month is Ari Friedlaender. Ari is a research scientist on the faculty of the Duke University Marine Laboratory. His work focuses on marine mammals in polar regions and how climate change affects their environment. He spends several months of the year at sea studying whale behavior and as a result has a unique opportunity to capture images from his surroundings. He has made over 12 trips to Antarctica, and is continually seeking to expose remote and vulnerable regions throughout the world's oceans. Ari is passionate about and committed to using photography as a means to engage and connect non-scientists to issues facing our world's oceans and its inhabitants.
Ari shows his images from Antarctica and other research areas several times a year in galleries around the country, and donates the use of his images to several on-line and print media outlets for educational purposes.
