Each month we
present a body of work from a premier artist with whom we have collaborated
closely in the creation of fine art prints.
As a film director in the highly polished world of television advertising, Mark is always looking for interesting faces for his comedic commercials. More often than not, the best faces are those of old people. Unpretentious and incredibly expressive, these faces defy television's rule of beauty, and bring an entirely different personality to the projects.
Mark started photographing these aging faces in 1987 as a personal photographic project. He has traveled to Europe, Africa, China, Mongolia, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and throughout the US, focusing on ethnic cultures. He has taken as many as 700 portraits in two months; and in the past eighteen years, having accumulated approximately 15,000 portraits for this project.
